Buy the Trilogy or Complete Collection and start in Prophecies.

No you wouldn't be crazy, there are many new and returning players every day.

If you want to play for the fun of playing then sure, go ahead.
If you're chasing 50/50 HOM you may struggle.

buy the trilogy, its the cheapest way to go. if you want story, start with prophesies, if you want get-up and go power, start nightfalls, if you want a farmer, start factions (sins and ritualists seem to dominate the farming at this time)

Buy it all and go in chronological order. Prophecies -> Factions -> Nightfall -> EoTN

actually since proph really isnt that noob friendly... i would go
Factions-> Proph -> EoTn -> Nightfall(since this i really imo the longest campign with more choke points that people can get stuck on)

Huh? Prophecies is easily the most noob friendly of them all. In Factions you can be facing foes with elite skills and level 20+ in a few hours. I can't see why you would think it's easier than Prophecies (not to mention all the free skills you'd be getting in Proph).

I believe you should go proh first. and follow the order. Fraction can be a little too quick and Nightfall can be terribly hard at the end. EOTN's dungeons can be difficult and long as well. Prophecies may be a long story but it helps you to get back into the game. If you start w other two, then best to cross back to tyria and do that first.

Personally, I'd say that Prophecies is noob-unfriendly in that the first part of the game after Pre-Searing will make you lose the will to live, and the entire game is just a long convulated slog...

If he buys the Trilogy and EotN as I did, he could have 8 characters and start in three of the games. I recommend waiting to travel to Eye of the North at level 15 or above, though, since the game is intended for level 20. You can travel there at level 10 and the game will raise you to level 20 in some ways, but you're not fully a level 20 until you earn it.

Alternatively, he could start in Prophecies as Marty and others suggested.

How to loose new players: Recommend them to play Prophecies (fully) first.

nuff said.

In whatever campaign u start, i would recommend to get the Nightfall Istan heroes and the first few in EotN as soon as possible.
And decide then what u wanna finish first.
But with a bunch of Heroes it will be much better/easier.
Well, after u upgraded yer heroes with better skills, weapons and insigs/runes it will be much better.

What to play first depends a bit upon your playstyle. Prophecies is the longest, most RPG like campaign, the others are more slam-bang.
The most important thing to consider is what you want your character to look like. Go through the character creation process in each campaign to determine what you like the look of best. (Make over kits can only do so much. )
Then take that character through the beginning area until you get to Lion's Arch (prophecies), Kaineng Center (Factions), or Consulate docks (Nightfall).
From there, go to Nightfall and/or EotN to get some Heroes and then continue on in whatever campaign/expansion floats your boat.
Note: you have to ascend in whatever campaign you start in. That means, if you start in Prophecies, you will need to do the desert missions. Fastest way to do that is to skip the Maguuma Jungle by travelling from Temple of the Ages down to Sanctum Cay.

You may be right. I'm playing the Dunes of Despair mission in Prophecies for the first time and failed it even with using a seven-hero team; I'll have to try again tonight. I like all of the games after Prophecies better.

And as OP already played Factions and Nightfall, I think it would be more fun to experience pre-searing for once.

Actually it's been some years and we all (who still play) know how much has changed, even from 3 years ago. Plus he may not remember most of the story (if he's into that at all) so the safest bet is to play through a decent, not overly slow, campaign first and then if he's still got the mood, tackle the long boringness that is Prophecies. (It does make me want to fall asleep at times)

So I'd also recommend playing through Nightfall (if you're not going for something profession specific) just to get a good character up and running and having more heroes. This is also for the fact that the OP is potentially starting with a new account since he doesn't have his old account anymore.
